Boca del Lupo invites artists and companies to apply for their Space Residency Program, which provides up to two weeks of free space and mentorship support for the creation and development of new artistic work. Emerging and established artists are welcome to apply, and can come from a variety of artistic disciplines (theatre, dance, music, performance art, visual art) with a performing arts component to the proposed work.

Work should explore, but is not limited to, Micro Performance, which is an emerging global trend proliferating in many forms, from theatre and dance to new media, live art and interactive technology. Micro Performance prizes depth of experience above all, asking the audience, which is rarely more than 20 or 30 at a time, to immerse themselves in a world of the artist’s creation. Past residencies include: The Chop’s Through the Gaze of a Navel which went on to tour to Crow’s Theatre in Toronto, the Yukon Arts Centre and Calgary’s High Performance Rodeo, and in development is Neworld’s Marcus Youssef and Niall McNeil working title: Niall Talks About S*hit He Likes, With A Little Help From His Friends.
Successful applicants from our inaugural competition include:

Ralph Escamillan immersive dance piece Squin premiering at PuSh 2018

Holly Schmidt’s Midnight Picnic exploring the affinities and tensions between social practice and
experimental performance

Universal Limited’s Japanese Problem is an intimate site specific experience about the
incarceration of Canadian citizens set at Hastings Park race track horse stalls. Full production premiered September 2017.
