The theme of this art competition is Love: We are interested in explorations of love in its different facets and complex challenges, that perhaps move beyond standard idealisations. Artists may be interested in love related to family, animals, romance, nature, children, friends; in love that is difficult or unexpected as well as love that is rewarding or even joyous. Two dimensional pieces are welcomed in any medium that can be hung, up to a maximum size of 20 inches x 24 inches (once matted and framed, if framed). Artwork must be framed unless it is done on a deep (1.5 inches) canvas with finished edges.

Submissions should be in digital form, sent to If you have difficulty with the web form, please email

A shortlist of all submissions will be selected by the judges for display throughout the month of February, 2019, at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Lakepoint Way (behind the Langford YMCA, beside the Langford public library). The shortlist will be announced on January 28. Shortlisted pieces should be dropped off at VCM Langford on Saturday February 2, where a Coast Collective team will receive and hang the pieces. (In certain rare instances where an artist cannot do this, alternate drop off arrangements are possible).

Adjudication fee is $5 (waived for Coast Collective members). Cash prizes will be offered for 1st ($200), 2nd ($150) and 3rd ($50) winning entries. Shortlisted artists selected for display are permitted to sell their pieces from the display venue at VCM, with a 10% commission to Coast Collective.
