For the ‘Love of Nature’ on-line Art Auction
The WMIYETEN Nature Sanctuary Society (wh-my-eh-then: Place of the Deer) in partnership with West Shore Arts Council is seeking donations of art for an on-line auction which will happen this fall. Proceeds from the auction will further support the creation of an “Arts Studio” in nature which will be available for rent by local artists and arts groups.
The Sanctuary, in the District of Highlands, is a 69-acre protected forest and riparian area that has been managed as a private conservation area for over 70 years and is home to numerous endangered species. The Studio will be connected to the ‘Nature Kinship House’, that is perched on the side of a small, pristine lake and will offer artists the opportunity to create within a tranquil natural environment.
Historically the property was owned (1947 – 1963) by Gertrude Snider, an artist who was a contemporary of Emily Carr and served on the Island Arts and Crafts Society’s executive committee, also becoming a regular exhibitor at the annual exhibitions.
Your creative and generous donations will raise the remaining $23,000 needed to begin this special project.
